Football fans were critical of Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson for the Liverpool pairs' 'salty' post match interview after their Champions League loss on Tuesday night.

The Premier League champions in waiting were beaten 1-0 by Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital in the first leg on Tuesday, thanks to Saul Niguez' goal in the fourth minute.

After the match Van Dijk and Robertson were interviewed in the tunnel with the centre back calling the goal 'lucky,' and the left back criticising Diego Simeone's side for 'throwing themselves on the floor' and 'celebrating like they'd won the tie.'

After the interview fans were quick to criticise the pair for how they'd handled the questions:

On the night Niguez' goal was all that Atleti needed to seal the win and take a 1-0 lead to Anfield, where they are likely to once again cede much of the possession to their more attacking opponents.

Despite having the ball for 73% of the game Jurgen Klopp's side couldn't manage a single shot on target as they lost for just the third time all competitions this season, having lost to Napoli in the Champions League Group Stage and Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.

Will it be a special night at Anfield for Liverpool in the second leg or can Atleti hold on?
