Jurgen Klopp Says It Would Be 'Unfair' For Liverpool Not To Win The Premier League

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was confused by the idea that the Premier League season could have just been cancelled, claiming it would have been 'unfair' on his team.

It's still not 100% certain that the Premier League will be finished but it won't just be cancelled and made null and void at this point.

That was one of the suggestions when the league was first put on pause in March, with West Ham's Karen Brady the first to suggest it, but not allowing Liverpool to be crowned champions would have been 'unfair' according to their manager.

"There was talk that people wanted to declare the season null and void. So you thought: 'Huh? We have played 76 percent of the season and you just want to delete the thing?" the German said at a DFB Academy talk.

"That would have been something that I personally would find unfair, to just say that it didn't happen.

"We are first in the home table, we are first in the away table. It is a season in which we should become champions."

Talking about Liverpool still becoming champions in the current situation the former Borussia Dortmund manager added, "Dealing with the crisis is the most important thing. But that doesn't mean that certain things are of no importance at all just because they are less important.

Jurgen Klopp Issues Message To Liverpool Supporters After Premier League Suspends Season

"I think there are worse things in life than not becoming champions. A lot of people around us have big problems. People die, it always happens, but at the moment because of a virus that we all didn't know and for which nobody could be prepared.

"We cannot prepare for everything, but also have to react often. That's the biggest part of my life, reacting to things that I didn't expect."

On the return of football in England the 52-year-old added, "When it comes to football, that means that we will start training at some point and to make sure everyone is safe, unique measures are taken.

"As they were made in Germany, they are now being taken in England.

"The training centres of the English professional clubs will be the safest. There are no places to be infected at all."

Liverpool just need two wins to secure their first title in 30 years, with nine games to go, and are currently 25 points ahead of champions Manchester City.

Before the pause of the league Klopp's men had the chance of winning the league without playing another game as City were due to play midweek and the Saturday before the Merseyside derby on the following Monday.
