Jurgen Klopp has taken a partially veiled dig at Jose Mourinho and Manchester United's style of play on Monday by saying it was good preparation for their match against West Brom at the weekend.

The game between Liverpool and Manchester United on Monday night wasn't the most exciting of Monday Night Football fixtures as United decided to play for a point with hope of a counter attack goal and Liverpool failed to find a pla B to beat them as viewers were bored to sleep.

Earlier in the week Jose Mourinho carried on the conversation about the game by saying Liverpool had played defensively with two sitting midfielders and now Klopp has hit back with a veiled dig.

The Reds face West Brom at the weekend and talking in his press conference the German reckoned Monday's game set them up well for the challenge:

"We are a football- playing side and Manchester United were more physical and stronger than we were with a lot of tall players. We did well and I don't remember them having a big advantage in the game. We need to be ready again for situations like this (against West Brom)

"...Defending these balls was important, very important, in the United game and will be important in the next game. Playing football would have been important in the Man United game and will be very important in the West Brom game. There is a lot of work to do.

United were criticised for being so negative in the big game on Monday and were indebted to David de Gea for his two top saves for a point. Liverpool though failed to have a plan B to break down the resolute defence of their rivals.

West Brom have a decent record against Liverpool and have drawn the last three games against them. That includes a 2-2 draw at Anfield last season when Divock Origi scored a late equaliser for Klopp's side. That shows the Reds will have to be at their best at the weekend.
