Gary Neville Brilliantly Defends Unai Emery's Arsenal Tactics Despite Losses

Neville has been one of the Gunners' most vocal critics in the past but he's now sticking up for the new manager.

One of the great delights of the back end of the Arsene Wenger era at Arsenal was listening to Gary Neville rip into them on commentary but the former Manchester United defender has now leapt to their defence.

Amongst all the nonsense that went on towards the end of Arsene Wenger's 22 years at Arsenal one man who could never stand to see them drift towards to the utter terrible was Gary Neville.

The man who once went to war with the Gunners with his Manchester United teammates was not exactly happy to hold back when it came to ripping into Arsene Wenger's side towards the end of the Frenchman's tenure at the Emirates.

Arsene left last season and has now been replaced by Unai Emery. The former PSG manager has lost his first two games, against Manchester City and Chelsea, and already come under some criticism.

Sam Allardyce basically said that the Spaniard needed to adapt his game and not play out from the back so often, because of course Big Sam wouldn't like that, but Emery has now been defender by Neville:

Allardyce had called Emery's style 'stupid' saying, "What do Manchester City do? Press press press. So why do you try and play out when they press press press?

"Even the Arsenal crowd cheered when they dropped one in the opposition half. You cannot just force 'the only way to play is this way' in this country.

"We are getting obsessed with this stupid 'let's play out from the back, split the centre halfs, either side of the 18-yard box and go and play from there'... (it's) utter rubbish to play like that all of the time."

Neville's got a very good point about giving Emery and Arsenal time to adapt especially when looking at what happened at City.

In Guardiola's first season he was still left with many of the side from the previous regime and they didn't look capable of playing his style of football as they finished fourth in the Premier League.

Many questioned if the former Barcelona manager's style could work in England and then the next season they broke all sorts of record as they won the league.

Maybe Neville knows what he's talking about.
