Cristiano Ronaldo is the kind of person you'd imagine who would want a standing ovation every time he walks into a room or flushes the toilet, or does anything so it's no surprise he wants one at El Clasico on Saturday but will he get his wish?

Christmas might be right around the corner but football is handing out its main present a couple of days early this year as Barcelona and Real Madrid meet on Saturday in the Clasico at the Bernabeu.

Of course every Clasico is extremely important but this one carries even more with it because Real currently trial their fierce rivals by 11 points, even though they have a game in hand.

A loss for Los Blancos would all but hand the title to Ernesto Valverde's side, something no one would have seen coming at the beginning of the season when Real won the Spanish Supercopa and UEFA's Super Cup.

Real picked up more silverware at the weekend when they became Club World Cup champions and that led Ronaldo to ask for a guard of honor next weekend, saying, "It would be nice and I would like Barcelona to make for us the guard of honour."

However it doesn't look like the Ballon d'Or winner will get his wish with Barca director Guillermo Amor telling journalists after his side's win over Deportivo on Sunday, "In this club, the guard of honor is usually made when we participate in the Champions League or La Liga... and this is not the case."

According to Marca there has been a precedent set earlier this season because of the Super Cup. After Real beat Manchester United to lift that trophy they didn't get a guard of honour in their next match.

Barcelona have previously given their rivals a guard of honour but that was after they'd won La Liga with a league Clasico still to play but they clearly don't see FIFA's competition as being worthy.

Real might be champions of the world but will they reign supreme against Barcelona?
