Real Madrid have the financial power to complete a sensational double transfer swoop for Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in 2022, according to Javier Tebas.

Los Blancos signed David Alaba on a free transfer and landed Eduardo Camavinga from Stade Rennais for a fee believed to be around £27.9m in the summer.

The Spanish club allowed Sergio Ramos to leave on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain and sanctioned the sales of Raphael Varane and Martin Odegaard to Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.

Madrid were eager to reduce their wage bill in the summer amid the financial impact caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the La Liga club have been heavily linked with a move for Mbappe and attempted to land him before the transfer window shut on 31st August.

Madrid initially saw their £137m (€160m) bid for Mbappe rejected by PSG before they tabled a staggering £189m (€220m) offer, which was also turned down.

Mbappe’s current deal with PSG will expire in 2022 and the Ligue 1 club are expected to push ahead with negotiations over a new contract.

Tebas has now claimed that Madrid have the necessary funds in their war chest to fund a move for both Mbappe and Haaland.

Speaking at the Sporting Integrity Week event (SIGA) as the Spanish football representative (as per Football Espana), the La Liga president said: “They [Madrid] have sold over €200m in players.

“They have money in the bank to sign Mbappe and Haaland together. They have not lost money and on top of that, they have sold assets.

“What is not understandable is that a club who loses €400m, has €500m in salary excess, and can reject offers like the one for Mbappe.

“It is failure in the control rules of France, which has now hurt the European market.”

Borussia Dortmund also face a difficult test in keeping hold of Haaland amid interest from Madrid, Bayern Munich, United and Liverpool.

The 21-year-old Norwegian striker, whose current Dortmund deal expires in 2024, has become one of Europe’s most sought-after talents alongside Mbappe.

However, Haaland could leave Dortmund after his much-speculated £68m release clause becomes active in 2022.
