Wayne Rooney has insisted that he has "doubts" that Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Juventus for Manchester City due to his "great legacy" at Manchester United.

According to widespread reports this week, the Portuguese superstar has made it clear to Juventus that he wants to leave this summer and his agent Jorge Mendes has offered Ronaldo to the blue side of Manchester.

As Ronaldo enters the final year of his contract, Juventus reportedly still want City to pay a fee of around €30 million.

Earlier this morning, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the talks that are ongoing between City and Mendes: "Cristiano Ronaldo also informed his Juventus teammates that he wants to leave.

Jorge Mendes will be in direct contact with Man City today to discuss Ronaldo's salary - it won't be €31m net per season as current one. Juventus are waiting for Manchester City official bid."

However, his former Manchester United teammate Rooney believes that Ronaldo would not want to join Pep Guardiola's team due to his years spent at United.

Rooney said: "I don't know what to make of it to be honest. If you're asking me do I think it is possible? I have my doubts.

"Cristiano has a great legacy at United. I don't think he's going to move to Manchester City.

"Of course in football you never know and in the past Peter Schmeichel went to City, as did Andrew Cole and Mark Hughes was their manager.

"But I don't think somebody with Cristiano's legacy would do that."

Ronaldo left United for Real Madrid in 2009 where he spent six years at the club, winning three Premier League titles, a Champions League and his first Ballon d'Or.

Despite his incredibly successful time on the red side of Manchester, it is looking increasingly likely that Ronaldo will be playing at the Etihad stadium this season which would cap off one of the most dramatic transfer windows in recent memory.
