Alan Shearer Believes One Key Signing Will Decide Title Race, And It's Not Harry Kane

Alan Shearer has revealed that even if Harry Kane moves to Manchester City, this signing will not decide the title race.

Alan Shearer believes that the title race will still remain seriously competitive even if Harry Kane goes to Manchester City this summer.

Kane, who has been chased by Manchester City all summer, has been looking to move to the Premier League champions as he believes that his current club Tottenham Hotspur are unable to match his ambitions.

However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has set a high price tag on the England superstar which Manchester City have been unable to meet at this moment.

Many pundits have suggested that this signing would turn the Premier League into a one horse race as City would be able to run away with the title yet Shearer disagrees.

In his BBC sport column this week, he said: "It's not going to be as straightforward as that for City, especially with Chelsea signing Romelu Lukaku.

"Chelsea had everything apart from a goalscorer last season and there were too many times where they created chances and didn't put the ball in the back of the net.

"Lukaku changes that because we know he will score goals. He guarantees lots of them actually, which is why they have gone all out to get him and were willing to spend so much to bring him back to Stamford Bridge."

Shearer emphasised how the timing of Lukaku's transfer is crucial and how he may be the catalyst for Chelsea to build on their European success from last season: "He is going to be a huge signing for them. Put it this way, he can be the difference between them being champions or not. That's how important he is."

Whilst Shearer spoke about the signings of City and Chelsea, he also acknowledged some of the business that Manchester United and Liverpool have done during this transfer window: "Manchester United lacked consistency last season but have probably had the best transfer window so far, bringing in France defender Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho, who is a really exciting talent. They might even get someone else in too.

"Liverpool have only brought in RB Leipzig centre-half Ibrahima Konate this summer, but after all their problems at the back in the past few months they are well covered in that area now. It was a complete freak they had so many injuries in that one department anyway."
