There's One Reason Some Fans Aren't Impressed With Harry Kane's Record
Harry Kane is chasing Alan Shearer's Premier League record, make no bones about it. Today he broke one of the records but there's a lot of fans, especially those of Everton, who aren't too impressed.
In the history of the Premier League no one has really come that close to scoring as many goals as Alan Shearer, in his spells at Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United he scored 260 times.
Harry Kane could be the man to one day catch him and overtake him.
Today the 24 year old continued his assault on the record by scoring a hat-trick against Southampton and his first broke a 22 year old Premier League record of goals in a calendar year, also held by Shearer.
Whilst everyone was patting Kane on the back there were some fans, especially those from Everton, pointing out that it's not an English record because of Dixie Dean's pre Premier League record:
It's as though some people forget there was football before 1992, the most goals in a callender year is actually held by Dixie Dean whilst playing for Everton in 1928.- MR DT :copyright: (@MrDtAFC) December 26, 2017
I hear Harry Kane is now the record calendar year goalscorer in the English league. Phenomenal achievement. I had thought Dixie Dean's record of 62 goals would never be broken.- Trevor Mc-You&YourKin-lay :evergreen_tree: (@TrevorMcKinlay) December 26, 2017
Nice one @HKane. Only needs to score 8 second-half goals to break the all-time top-flight calendar-year English record held by #DixieDean of @Everton. You won't hear that anywhere else as the media slavishly hype this nauseating @premierleague that invented football. #HarryKane pic.twitter.com/G2Cdgk93sU- Tony Palmer (@squaremilenews) December 26, 2017
The Harry Kane "record" is impressive, until you compare it to Dixie Dean. #IfYouKnowYourHistory- Ohio Toffees :o::soccer: (@Ohio_Toffees) December 26, 2017

Let's not erase football's history and show a little respect for Dixie Dean who scored 45 top flight goals in 1928. Still a ways to go for young Harry to surpass those numbers. #TOTSOU- CR Koppite (@PrendergastAlan) December 26, 2017

Modern Druidic Calendar,
It's still fucking Dixie Dean
Dixie Dean. 62 goals in 49 games 1927:white_check_mark: But football only started when Sky took over- robbie o (@coyb12) December 26, 2017
Dixie Dean scored 85 goals in 1928 before Sky invented football- paul_efc (@paul_rule) December 26, 2017
The fans have got a bit of a point, we do obsess over football in the 'Premier League era' often forgetting what came before weekly games on tv because of Sky.
But the point remains that is is a Premier League record and it's not easy to find time periods of football that you can easily compare but the Premier League era makes it easier.
Plus it's still bloody impressive.
Anyway Lionel Messi once scored 91 goals in a year so sod you all really!
