Harry Kane is chasing Alan Shearer's Premier League record, make no bones about it. Today he broke one of the records but there's a lot of fans, especially those of Everton, who aren't too impressed.
In the history of the Premier League no one has really come that close to scoring as many goals as Alan Shearer, in his spells at Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United he scored 260 times.
Harry Kane could be the man to one day catch him and overtake him.

Today the 24 year old continued his assault on the record by scoring a hat-trick against Southampton and his first broke a 22 year old Premier League record of goals in a calendar year, also held by Shearer.
Whilst everyone was patting Kane on the back there were some fans, especially those from Everton, pointing out that it's not an English record because of Dixie Dean's pre Premier League record:
The fans have got a bit of a point, we do obsess over football in the 'Premier League era' often forgetting what came before weekly games on tv because of Sky.

But the point remains that is is a Premier League record and it's not easy to find time periods of football that you can easily compare but the Premier League era makes it easier.
Plus it's still bloody impressive.
Anyway Lionel Messi once scored 91 goals in a year so sod you all really!
