No One Can Believe That Stoke Have Appointed Paul Lambert As Manager

His last few roles haven't exactly hinted towards this being his next job.

Paul Lambert is the new manager of Stoke City. Paul Lambert is the new manager of Stoke City. Paul Lambert is the new manager of Stoke City- no I'm not doing lines like Bart Simpson, I'm just utterly confused.

Stoke have been a surprisingly solid team since making it into the Premier League in 2008, never finishing below 14th and never really looking like they would get relegated, that was until this season.

Their form under Mark Hughes this season led to the Welshman being sacked and the Potters went about looking for the right man to be only their third manager since they joined England's top tier.

Gary Rowett, Quique Sanchez Flores and Martin O'Neil all reportedly turned down the job so the club, currently sat in the relegation zone, have turned to further Norwich manager Paul Lambert.

The Scots last two jobs have been saving Blackburn Rovers and Wolves from relegation from the Championship and before that he was sacked by Aston Villa before he could take them down.

Unsurprisingly fans aren't exactly thrilled by the decision:

Lambert won't officially be in charge till Tuesday, after tonight's game away against Manchester United, and has signed a deal for two and a half years, presumably so he can Stoke from League One.

The club's statement said, "When the Club made a managerial change nine days ago we stated that we were looking to make an appointment as soon as possible," suggesting Lambert was a 'we need someone now' appointment rather getting the right man.

Essentially the former Borussia Dortmund manager is the only person left on the dancefloor late on Saturday night when you're feeling very down about yourself.

Good luck Paul...
