Watch: Alan Shearer Slams Liverpool Over Van Dijk Deal

The former Southampton striker believes his old club got a great deal

Alan Shearer believes Southampton could have named any price for Virgil Van Dijk... because Liverpool are so desperate for a centre-half.

The former Newcastle United striker also added that while Van Dijk is a "good player", there is "no way" that he is worth his £75 million price tag.

Van Dijk had been on Liverpool's radar since the summer, however, a move failed to materialise after Southampton reported Liverpool to the Premier League over an "illegal approach".

That hasn't stopped Jurgen Klopp from going back in for the Netherlands international though... and he finally got his man this week.

And while Shearer admits that Liverpool have improved their chances of making the top four by signing the ex-Celtic defender, he told @5liveSport the Saints have "got a hell of a deal":

Van Dijk hasn't had the best of seasons so far, having struggled with both injury and speculation surrounding his future at the start of the campaign.

However, with his height, power and experience of Premier League football, that could be about to change at Anfield.

Is Shearer right with his assessment of the deal, though?
