Since his arrival from Atlanta United in January, many have compared Newcastle's record signing Miguel Almiron to fictional character and all-round cult hero Santiago Munez.

The 25-year-old made the switch from America to try and win the hearts of Newcastle fans, just like Munez did when Glen Foy, a former Scottish footballer and scout, spotted him playing for an amateur club in Los Angeles

The club splashed out a record fee of £21 million for the Paraguayan forward, who scored 21 goals in 62 games during his time in the MLS, and it has been so far so good for the 25-year-old.

He impressed on his full-debut against Huddersfield, and clearly had a positive effect on a team that was previously struggling for form last season.

Not only are Munez and Almiron from Latin America but according to Capital North East, the 25-year-old worked at a Chinese restaurant when he was younger.

Just like Munez did while also working part-time with his father in a gardening business.

And months after penning a deal at St James, there are now rumours that Real Madrid are interested in signing the Paraguayan midfielder, which makes this comparison even more incredible.

TyC Sport journalist Markos Gonzalez claims that Los Blancos are following the 25-year-old "very closely."

He said the following on Twitter on Friday:

"Attention! - I've had it confirmed from Spain that Real Madrid is following very closely and has their eyes on Miguel Almiron."

Many on social media have compared the fictional character Santiago Munez to Newcastle's biggest signing in years on social media in recent months.

Here are just some of the tweets:

Newcastle fans are understandably thrilled with the way Almiron has started life on Tyneside.

Thoughts on Almiron's start to life in the Premier League? Will he end up at Real Madrid, like Santiago Munez?
