Wealdstone striker Dennon Lewis is reportedly 'close' to sealing a move to the Championship this summer, 12 months after he appeared on popular ITV reality show Love Island.

The 23-year-old, who has also played for Woking, Falkirk and Bromley since leaving Premier League side Watford in 2018, has impressed in non-league football this season.

He helped National League South side Wealdstone secure promotion after scoring 13 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.

And now Lewis is being tracked by a number of professional clubs, including Sunderland, Oxford and Huddersfield but it appears Championship side Charlton are leading the race to sign the former Love Island star.

The club's head of recruitment Steve Gallen has already contacted Wealdstone over a transfer, with Charlton showing an interest in agreeing a £50,000 fee, according to The Sun.

In 2018, Lewis spoke out against the racist abuse he received from his own club's fans at Scottish side Falkirk.

"I have never gone through a period like this in my life," he said at the time. "I know that I will not and cannot stand for this."

"From a personal standpoint, never in a million years would I have expected to be subject to racial abuse from Falkirk fans."

He took a break from the game to try his luck in Love Island but always maintained that he would return to football afterwards. "Most definitely, 100% I'll want to go back to playing football after I leave the villa."

Now the 23-year-old is being heavily linked with a big move in the summer. What a journey it has been.
