Jose Mourinho is the manager with the highest transfer expenditure of all time.

The former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Manchester United boss has purchased a total of 59 players at five different clubs, spending a massive £1.05 billion in his illustrious managerial career.

Mourinho's biggest spending spree came at Old Trafford, where he spent over £300 million on Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Fred and Romelu Lukaku.

The 'Special One' also splashed £30 million on Alexis Sanchez, while Victor Lindelof cost a cool £31 million from Benfica.

Before his time with United, he bought Luka Modric and Angel Di Maria at Los Blancos, spending a combined total of £60 million on the pair.

And his next spell was just as expensive, with the purchases of Diego Costa, Willian and Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea coming in at a hefty £95 million.

To his credit though, Mourinho has picked up 13 titles in his managerial career, including 2x Champions League titles with Inter Milan and FC Porto.

The 56-year-old also lifted three Premier League titles with Chelsea and a La Liga trophy with Real Madrid

In terms of the rest of the list, Pep Guardiola comes in second with a transfer expenditure of £1.03 billion.

Notable purchases include Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Villa and Dani Alves at Barcelona.

He also spent over £350 million on several players at Manchester City, including Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Leroy Sane, John Stones, Benjamin Mendy and Aymeric Laporte.

Former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is below in third place, spending a total of £914million on transfers, while Manuel Pellegrini, Carlo Ancelotti and Arsene Wenger follow.
