50-Year-Old Manager Danny Lennon Makes Clyde FC Debut After Subbing Himself On Against Celtic

50-Year-Old Manager Danny Lennon Makes Clyde FC Debut After Subbing Himself On Against Celtic

Clyde FC manager Danny Lennon proved age is just a number when he helped his side to a historic 3-1 victory over Celtic Colts on Tuesday night.

The 50-year-old decided to change from tracksuit to strip and replace defender Liam Allison in the second half of this week's Glasgow Cup tie.

Lennon, who took over the Scottish League One side in 2017, confirmed that he made the cameo appearance because of injuries within the squad.

"I still have the physicality and the health to grace the pitch," he said after the game via BBC.

"I felt that I handled it no problem. I look after myself. I'm in the gym everyday - sometimes twice - and I think it's just a bit of mind over matter.

"I'd do it again if called upon but I'm hoping not as that would tell me I'm getting a good squad of healthy players back. I'm actually going to go and look and negotiate a contract in the mirror with myself."

Clyde's manager named just three other players on the bench after the injury crisis.

But despite a lack of squad depth, they walked away with a surprise win thanks to goals from Ally Love, Craig Howie and a Stephen Welsh own goal.

Here he is making his first and probably last appearance for the club, aged 50. You just love to see it.

Clyde fans couldn't believe their eyes when the former Raith Rovers and Workington defender came off the bench.

"Canny believe av just seen Danny Lennon make his debut for Clyde at 50yrs old." said supporter Ross Madden.

Photographer Angus Macgregor also commented on his appearance, saying:

"Must admit I didn't think I'd be shooting action pics of 50 year old Clyde manager Danny Lennon when I turned up last night."

A moment Lennon and the hundreds in attendance will never forget.
