Gary Neville labelled the loss against Barcelona as 'one of his worst experiences in football' last night after the Catalan giants knocked seven past his Valencia side.

To rub salt into the wounds, Valencia legend Santiago Canizares has well and truly ripped into the former Manchester United defender following the Copa del Ray defeat on Wednesday evening.

Luis Suarez bagged four and Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick as Barcelona go into the second leg with a seven goal lead.

Canizares, who made 418 appearances for Valencia, launched a scathing attack on Neviile:

"I expected the coach's resignation, as well as some apologies. I may be ignorant, but I'm surprised he hasn't. I thought he was honest.

If Garcia Pitarch (Valencia sporting director) trusts in Gary as he said on Monday, I'm disappointed. If it's not like that, why did he say that?"

Neville has failed to win a game as Valencia manager since his appointment in December and fans are at breaking point, as well as former players.

Can Neville turn the tide at the Mestalla?
