Will Grigg didn't feature for Northern Ireland as boss Michael O'Neil has revealed why.

Grigg was on fire for Wigan en route to their promotion to the Championship - subsequently receiving a call-up to the national side - thus creating one of the greatest football chants which swept the Euro's.

Northern Ireland, who were enjoying their first Euro campaign, miraculously progressed through to the Last 16 just winning one game but enough to qualify as one of the best third place sides. They were paired with Wales in what was being dubbed as 'Battle of Britain'. Unfortunately for O'Neil's men, a Gareth McAuley own goal was enough to advance Wales to the quarter finals. It was their fourth game of the tournament as Grigg, again, did not feature.

As expected, during the post-match press conference O'Neil was asked why he never gave the 24-year-old a run-out, to which he replied with:

To the disappointment of everybody, the forward never got any playing time though it didn't stop the chant from being sung. The Irish faithful's weren't too happy with the comments, who took to Twitter to voice their frustration:
