RB Salzburg striker Erling Haaland eats the same foods as Cristiano Ronaldo in an attempt to "be at the top of the game".

The 19-year-old, who has scored 14 goals in 11 appearances for club and country this season, including a hat-trick against Genk on his Champions League debut, is currently on a diet of fish because of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's influence, according to his father.

Alfie Haaland, formerly of Manchester City and Leeds, revealed how his son has copied Ronaldo after he came across a story told by former Manchester United teammate Patrice Evra.

"I had to be determined to make it in the game. But Erling made all the sacrifices, leaving home at 16 to move to Molde, and he is a lot more professional than I was," the 46-year-old told ESPN.

"He was told a story by Patrice Evra about a lunch he had with Ronaldo and Cristiano had fish, nothing else.

"Erling now tries to do the same things because Ronaldo is 34 and still at the top of the game, so it shows the value of doing the right things."

The teenager will come up against Liverpool on Wednesday night with a Salzburg side who have scored an incredible 40 goals in 11 games so far this season.

When asked how he will cope with Haaland's threat in the Champions League encounter, Jurgen Klopp was full of compliments for the youngster but admitted he had a plan to stop him.

"Yes. And you will have to watch the game to see." Klopp said when asked about the plan.

"He is a wonderful player: very young, very confident, very quick. He looks clear minded and focused on the pitch.

"He looks a decent player and is in the perfect place at the moment. I hope he can play as long as possible. He is not the only threat for us, unfortunately, but he is a proper one."

Erling recently spoke of how Zlatan Ibrahimovic has become his biggest idol after his impact in world football.

The Swedish striker, who played for Barcelona, AC Milan and Manchester United, to name just a few, is someone Haaland looks up to.

"I had a lot of role models and I have seen many good players, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the biggest one for me - how he became so good, the [path] he took, the way he plays," Haaland said in an interview with TV2.

"Also, he is Scandinavian, so someone has to take over from him."

Do you think Erling Haaland will go on and become one of the best forwards in world football?
