In the wake of England's embarrassment against Iceland last night Roy Hodgson resigned as England manager and he was quickly followed by his coaches Ray Lewington and Gary Neville. It's not been a good period for Neville following his stint at Valencia and Joey Barton ripped into him last night.
England were an omnishambles in the last 16 against Iceland last night and the players are lucky that it's never them who lose their jobs because despite Roy Hodgson's flaws as manager of the national team, and there are many, this is as much their fault as it is Roy's.
However controversial midfielder Barton turned his anger on Gary Neville and specifically the trend of giving big jobs to the top ex players and Barton may have a point. He took to Twitter to rant about it:
Barton might have a point about top players being given big managerial jobs when they don't deserve it, especially for Neville's stint with Valencia but it's harsh to suggest that Neville's coaching appointment hurt England. There's nothing wrong with blooding someone as a coach, it's a whole different thing if you give him job as manager.
