Here are some examples of negative and positive user reviews from the Metacritic website.

"Gameplay has improved overall but the game has released in a dire state. Career mode is almost completely broken and not worth touching till its been patched. Squads have not been updated to their real life counter parts. And as i write this the transfer market in FUT is not working at all. Along with out of date commentary and and a broken single player experience it is not worth buying anytime soon." - 4/10

"Absolutely horrendous. The gameplay is slower than a snail. Players don't want to move around. The gameplay is extremely sluggish and slow. Same mistakes are occurring every single year and EA do not resolve this. FUT is generating money for them because of micro transactions, so they have completely ignored the single player aspect of the game for 7th year running. The career mode is riddled with bugs. INFECTED with bugs. What a massive disappointment. If you have FIFA 15 already, it's better you avoid this game completely because it's the exact same game. Horrible." - 1/10

"EA continues to ignore feedback and gives us unfinished games every year it has to stop!" - 0/10

"Excellent game. Totally different from the last garbage game. Just perfect and beautiful." 10/10

Despite a mostly negative response from gamers, the recent release has gone down a hit with critics.

In fact, a total of 33 out of 41 critics left positive feedback when reviewing FIFA 20.

"The most complete game of the saga." writes IGN Spain. "FIFA 20 takes everything good from previous years and adds the futsal with Volta Football, its new and exciting story mode." - 93 rating.

While IGN Italy say: "FIFA 20 looks like another step up for the FIFA franchise, even if probably not so wide and brave as we could expect. Anyway, gameplaywise the new physics, the slower pace and a solid 1 on 1 defense open a whole new world in terms of approach and styles of play. The very new game mode Volta brings the street soccer back to video games and it's simply a love letter to the spirit of football lived as fun." - 84 rating.

In addition to their poor overall user score, FIFA 20's overall Metacritic rating is far lower than Pro Evolution Soccer's latest release.

Konami's PES 2020 has received mostly positive feedback on the website, and currently boasts a rating of 8.7/10 from a total of 464 users.

"Great improvement from the previous installment." said one user. "It still lacks in the presentation aspects of the game and most important, customizations options." - 9/10

"PES really shines. The new camera, animations and refined gameplay both in offence and defense finally cure all past shortcomings. The ball is not an air balloon no more and no goal seems the same. Excellent goalkeepers (!) and fixed refs who don't disrupt the flow of the game. Gameplay-wise FIFA must struggle to catch-on. Master League is also better. I guess in the NG consoles Konami will fix the awkward, repetitive commentators and slightly improved but still outdated menus. Many people are set to buy both footy games this year for different reasons though. Well done Konami. At last!" - 9/10
