On this day in 2018, veteran goalkeeper Rob Green signed for Chelsea Football Club on a free transfer.

The 39-year-old would go on to make a grand total of zero competitive appearances during the 2018/19 season, serving as the club's third-choice goalkeeper - a position he would later describe as "the loneliest in football."

But despite his severe lack of first team minutes, Green lifted the Europa League trophy in Baku after Chelsea beat Arsenal in the final.

It will be a tale to tell the grandkids for the former West Ham and Norwich goalkeeper.

And on Friday afternoon, the club's official Twitter account decided to create a montage of the moment. This is genuinely outstanding.

Green retired just days after lifting the trophy, describing his Europa League experience as a "fitting" way to end his career.

"It's been an amazing journey for me in the game and I've loved every moment," he said.

"I've played with and against some of the best players in the world and have experienced so much that professional football has to offer.

"I have played for some fantastic clubs and I feel honoured to have played for England."

The 39-year-old actually made a Chelsea appearance before hanging up his gloves.

Ten months after he signed for the club, Green finally made his highly-anticipated debut in a friendly against New England Revolution in May.

The 39-year-old was brought on in the 88th minute as his long wait for first team minutes finally came to an end.

And moments after former manager Maurizio Sarri gave him the call, Green's teammates decided to make a big deal of the situation, surrounding the former West Ham shot-stopper almost immediately.

Eden Hazard, David Luiz, Marcos Alonso and Olivier Giroud all celebrated his rare appearance, throwing their hands in the air before he finally entered the frame.

Green went on to preserve Chelsea's clean sheet as they walked away 3-0 winners, with goals from Ross Barkley (2) and Olivier Giroud sealing the win.

But the headlines belonged to the former England international.
