Alan Shearer Trolls Arsenal After Southampton Draw

He couldn't resist another swipe at the Gunners

Ever since Arsenal's 3-1 home defeat to Manchester United, last Saturday, Alan Shearer has been inundated with messages from hysterical Gunners fans who were apoplectic for the former Newcastle United captain's analysis of their loss to Jose Mourinho's men.

A large section of Arsenal supporters clearly felt that their team's abysmal defensive display coupled with a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal somehow meant they deserved to beat United, last week. But Shearer wasn't having any of it, as his analysis on Match Of The Day and subsequent assessment on Twitter proved.

In fairness to the Premier League's all time leading goal scorer, it was hard to disagree with what he was saying, yet that didn't stop Arsenal fans from venting towards the former England captain, all week.

Then came today's game against Southampton at St. Mary's, in which Arsene Wenger's team had to rely on a second half equaliser from Olivier Giroud to rescue a point, despite once again bossing the possession stats, with the Gunners having 67% of the ball and 11 efforts on goal to Southampton's six.

And Shearer wasn't going to keep quiet about the Gunners' shortcomings coming back to haunt them, once again.

And the replies weren't too far behind:

Given that next week sees Arsenal host Shearer's old club Newcastle United, at the Emirates stadium, we're guessing this simmering rivalry is going to explode into a full blown internet Arsenal fan meltdown for the ages, next Saturday. Imagine that time the two lads had the argument over whether Jackson Martinez was 28 or 29, then multiply it by about a thousand. We can't wait.
