A Football Version Of 'The Inbetweeners' Is Coming Soon And The Trailer Has Just Dropped

The creators of The Inbetweeners have reunited for a brand new series called The First Team, a football-based comedy that focuses on three young football players at a fictional Premier League club.

The BBC Two series will follow the off-the-field misadventures of Mattie, Jack and Benji, who are far less proficient with women, money and social media than they are at scoring goals.

Written and directed by Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, the award-winning duo who created one of the most loved series in recent memory, this is the first project they have collaborated on since The Inbetweeners film in 2014.

A trailer for the show has officially dropped on YouTube in recent days.

It appears 'terrifying' teammate Petey will be a right laugh, while mercurial Italian manager Cesare and American chairman Mark Crane play a huge part as they struggle to make things work both on and off the pitch.

Damon Beesley, one of the writers of The First Team, explained the decision behind using footballers.

"Normally, boys of a certain age are going out and doing stupid stuff all of the time," he told NME.

"It's about living a different life to everyone else and the sacrifices that these people make. That's what we thought was interesting about footballers. There's a perception out there that they're all terrible human beings that are overpaid, lazy and don't know they're born - and actually the reality is not that."
