Kylian Mbappe's 'oversized ego' has became a problem for France at Euro 2020, according to former Paris Saint-Germain and France player Jerome Rothen.

Before the start of Euro 2020, Mbappe had a public feud with fellow compatriot Olivier Giroud after one of their pre-tournament friendlies when the Chelsea striker reportedly said: "Sometimes you make the runs and ball is not arriving. Perhaps we could have found each other better, there it is."

This comment angered the France and PSG forward who demanded to hold a press conference to respond to Giroud's comments which was later refused by the French camp.

Since the start of the tournament, Mbappe has started every group game for his national team, however he is yet to make his mark as he is still without a goal so far.

Rothen suggests that Mbappe's ego is becoming an increasing concern for the France manager Didier Deschamps, as he feels that it is starting to affect the forward's performances.

He said: "I think Didier Deschamps can no longer manage it and it is problematic. It is even surprising that he lets Kylian Mbappe do so many things.

"It can be seen in his performances on the pitch. Today, we cannot say that Kylian Mbappe has had a successful Euros.

"Is he in the right like he was at PSG throughout the end of the season? I would say no.

"We expect much better from Kylian Mbappe. Everyone thinks that Mbappe is one of the best players in Europe. But if you immediately put him in the category of the very best, you cannot be satisfied."

Whilst Mbappe has shown moments of quality throughout the tournament, fellow forwards Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku have scored five and three goals respectively.

France are due to play Switzerland in their round of 16 clash on Monday, where Rothen believes that Mbappe should also be taken off set pieces.

Rothen added: "Is he aware that he does not have the class of some [of the others] in the group on set pieces?

"Maybe he scores them in training. But I watch all of Mbappe's matches. Do you remember a magnificent free-kick? From 25 metres?

'On the other hand, I remember some from Griezmann, from Pogba. That's two already, a left footer and a right footer. So what is he [Mbappe] doing there?"
