Fans Outraged At Spurs Supporter Receiving £500 Fine After Throwing Banana Skin At Aubameyang
Football fans are furious that a Tottenham Hotspur fan who threw a banana skin at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has received a £500 fine.
Averof Panteli, 57, admitted to the offence and has also received a four-year ban from football, though he denies any racial motivation behind the attack.
BBC Sport reports that his fine came to a total of £500, which included £100 for the racial element and £135 in costs.
The 29-year-old Gunners striker was targeted after he scored in Arsenal's 4-2 win over Spurs at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month.
"If there's anyone that needs me to apologise to, I will," Panteli said. "Ian Wright, Aubameyang, Arsenal players, Tottenham players and especially Tottenham [...] football club and my fellow Tottenham fans.
"I'd like to apologise to them, it wasn't meant to offend anyone whatsoever."
However, fans have stormed to Twitter to show their outrage at the fine and the four-year ban.
"We have in the circumstances found the racial element was there." Magistrate in adding extra £100 fine, making it £500 plus 4 years banning order for the fan (banned for life by Spurs) who threw banana skin towards Aubameyang. When are the courts going to take racism seriously?

So as a club #Spurs have given the RACIST!! fan who threw a banana at #Aubameyang a 4 Year ban.
They don't feel that actions like that deserve a lifetime ban... no!?
4 years!! Shameful & embarrassing

The Spurs fan who threw a banana at one of our players has been fined £500 and banned from football for 4 years. Not a strong enough sentencing in my opinion. For this to be on the way to stopping, you need to send out a message. Ban him for life from football, and a huge fine.

Is that right? Spurs fan pays £635 in fines for a clear racist gesture (no way there is a banana just laying about!) yet the Arsenal fan chucks an empty plastic bottle and gets an £800 fine? Utter madness.

Aubameyang has reacted on Instagram to the news that the Spurs fan who threw a banana towards him has been banned for 4 years and fined £500...
Surely a life-time ban is the bare minimum required for racism?
What a joke. pic.twitter.com/6wNVlPGVJp

Panteli, who resides in Norwich, has been handed a lifetime ban from the club.
"He has not been charged for any racially aggravated public order offence," his solicitor, Leila Rasool, told Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court.
"He was arrested for that but no action has been taken in respect of that matter.
"Police directly told Mr Panteli they accepted his account and didn't think there was a racial element."
