A Twitter thread detailing every 'shocking' decision given against Liverpool in their Champions League round of 16 tie against Atletico Madrid has gone viral.

The Premier League leaders were far from at their scinetaling best against the La Liga outfit on Tuesday night.

Diego Simeone's side eventually secured a 1-0 win at the Wanda Metropolitano thanks to an early goal from Saul Niguez, and it was a defensive masterclass from the likes of Renan Lodi and Felipe that helped them keep a clean sheet.

But for many Liverpool fans, it was the performance of referee Szymon Marciniak that left a bitter taste in the mouth.

Twitter user @FabinhoIic has created a thread of every bad refereeing decision in the game and yeah, it's not great viewing for Liverpool fans.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also voiced his displeasure at the Polish official after the full-time whistle, although he did admit he deserved to be booked for dissent.

"It was difficult for the referee to deal with the atmosphere tonight," Klopp said.

"I don't think the header was because of that, but a lot of other situations...after 30 minutes, three Atletico players were already on the ground without being injured.

"The ref just needs to feel that game a little bit more. The crowd wanted to help their team tonight. That makes it a very emotional game.

"I deserved it (the yellow card). I was just shouting in the direction, no bad words, I was not swearing,

"I was just unhappy with the overall performance and in that moment it finally came out and the ref didn't like it too much. I can take that, I deserved the yellow card."
