Football Fan's £25 Bet During Last Season's Champions League Final Is Still The Most Bizarre Bet Ever

Football Fan's £25 Bet During Last Season's Champions League Final Is Still The Most Bizarre Bet Ever

A football fan placed a £25 bet on for there to NOT be a penalty in the first minute of last season's Champions League final, and it's still one of the strangest bets we've ever seen.

For reasons unknown, the punter thought there was no way a spot-kick would be awarded in the opening exchanges and put on £25 with atrocious odds of 1/1000.

There was hardly any point in putting the bet on because the return was never going to be big.

But then much to his anger, Liverpool won a penalty literally 20 seconds in Sadio Mane's cross struck the arm of Moussa Sissoko.

Referee Damir Skomina went to VAR but stayed put with his decision, allowing Mo Salah to open the scoring early on.

It meant the fan lost his bet and the slip went viral as a result.

At the opposite end of the betting spectrum, a punter won a whopping £117,000 after correctly predicting all ten results on the final day of the 2018/29 Premier League season but didn't even know his bet came in until 10 days later.

The unnamed better from Derbyshire placed £5 on an ambitious 23,496/1 10-fold accumulator with Paddy Power, guessing all the outcomes and pocketing exactly £117,485.16.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: "Like finding a winning lottery ticket down the back of the sofa, this punter hadn't realised he was over £117,000 richer from an accumulator he had on the last day of the season.

"He predicted the result of every game, including a loss for United against Cardiff, which in hindsight could've been the most obvious of the lot - but didn't find out until 10 days after the event!"
