England Go 1-0 Down To Kosovo After Just 35 Seconds In Entertaining Euro Qualifier

England suffered an early setback in their European Championship qualifier against rank outsiders Kosovo, but the Three Lions bounced back in style to make it 5-1 at half-time.

Gareth Southgate's side went 1-0 down after just 35 seconds on Tuesday night when the world number 120 ranked side pounced on Michael Keane's loose pass in the opening stages.

Kosovo striker Valon Berisha latched onto a simple pass and slotted past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with ease.

Despite going behind so soon, England were back on the front foot after Berisha's opener.

And in the seventh minute, much to the relief of fans around St Mary's stadium, in form winger Raheem Sterling headed home to save England's blushes.

The 24-year-old has scored eight goals in his last eight appearances for his country, with five of those coming in home games, and this was another instinctive finish from the Manchester City winger.

England continued to threaten Kosovo's final third and it didn't take long for the ever reliable Harry Kane to get on the scoresheet.

The striker gave his side the lead in the 19th minute after Raheem Sterling turned provider for the Tottenham Hotspur forward.

Kane has now scored six goals in qualifying - not to mention the fact he has now scored 19 goals for England whilst wearing the captain's armband.

Things went from bad to worse for Kosovo when defender Mergim Vojvoda scored an own goal in the 37th minute.

And Jadon Sancho put the game to bed in the latter stages of the first half, converting twice in the final minutes of the half-time to make it 5-1.
