Cristiano Ronaldo Criticised For Being Fifth In Line For Penalties

Cristiano Ronaldo Criticised For Being Fifth In Line For Penalties

Cristiano Ronaldo didn't get the chance to take his spot-kick and fans don't have any sympathy for him.

You know, I've actually got some sympathy for Cristiano Ronaldo tonight. Unfortunately for the Portuguese super star it seems that after his country's penalty loss I might be the only one.

The Confederations Cup semi-final between Portugal and Chile went to penalties tonight but Portugal were pretty lucky to get as far as that.

Chile really should have had a penalty in extra-time and then they somehow managed to hit the woodwork twice in just a matter of seconds.

But once it got the shootout the European champions did their best impression of England, in fact they made the English look good at penalties.

After three spot-kicks for each team it was all over. The South American champions scored all three of theirs and Claudio Bravo saved all three from the opposition.

That left Ballon d'Or holder Ronaldo, who was waiting to take the fifth and potentially final pen, red faced and fans were quick to jump on him:

I actually think Ronaldo is hard done by here.

Yes he was due to take the fifth and possibly winning penalty but it's also the most stressful one to take if it goes down to the fifth, Drogba took the fifth when Chelsea won the Champions League final and was proved right.

There's a flaw in the system that stops teams being allowed to change their order. After the first two were missed Ronaldo would have surely moved to the third if he could!

Anyway "ha Ronaldo, you didn't take one you disgrace!"
