Johnson, 28, had already admitted grooming and one count of sexual activity with a child but after hours of deliberations, a jury of eight women and four men returned their guilty verdict to Bradford Crown Court.
The two-week trial saw a lot of evidence stacked heavily against Johnson, who continued to deny he had engaged in anything more than kissing with the then 15-year-old girl.
Lead prosecutor Kate Blackwell QC had told the jury Johnson had lied to officers and to his ex-girlfriend, Stacey Flounders, who revealed during the trial that the pair had now split.
Miss Blackwell said:
"He lied to the police upon his arrest and on the way to Peterlee Police Station when he told them that he had only given her a couple of shirts.
"He lied to his girlfriend about the girl's age when she asked him.
"He lied to the police that there were never any arrangements for them to meet up on a third occasion.
"He lied to the police when he told them that he had no sexual feelings for the girl."
Johnson's ex-girlfriend Flounders had initially stuck by the former footballer as they had recently had a baby daughter together. During the trial, however, she admitted Johnson had cheated on her with 'quite a few women' and that they were no longer together.
The series of WhatsApp messages were read out during the trial and Blackwell claimed they were 'a classic case of grooming'.
