Nemanja Matic to Manchester United would appear to be a done deal, with the Serbian reuniting with old boss Jose Mourinho in a £40 million deal.

News broke today that United and Chelsea had agreed a fee for the Serbian midfielder, and a leaked image of Matic of in United training gear, featuring the No.31 squad number, began to do to the rounds.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to United this summer, with some reports last month suggesting that Matic to United was imminent, and that he would join up the squad for their pre-season tour of the United States.

Things took a little longer to iron out though, with Chelsea seemingly wanting to bring Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco before they offloaded Matic. Now that the Blues have added the combative midfielder to their ranks, they have signed off Matic's exit.

Plenty have reacted to the news on social media, with one story in particular doing the rounds yet again.

Two years ago, Chelsea lost five games in the opening 58 days of the season and manager Jose Mourinho criticised individuals in front of the entire squad.

One of those individuals? Nemanja Matic.

During their poor run of form under Mourinho back in October 2015, as reported by Neil Ashton from the Daily Mail, the Portuguese told Matic that 'he needed too many touches to control the ball.'

He was earlier axed for their 2-1 Champions League defeat against Porto.

Branislav Ivanovic, Oscar, Cesar Azpilicueta and John Terry were also among the players who were slated by Mourinho, but his comments about Matic are particular interesting given that Mourinho is now signing him for a second time.

Is Matic the ideal candidate to slot into United's midfield and give Paul Pogba the extra bit of freedom he so desperately craves?

Would Fabinho or Eric Dier be better fits?

Sound off in the comments below.
