Bruno Fernandes has been criticised for being a 'penalty merchant' and dubbed 'Penandes' by fans of non Manchester United fans, but one fan of the club has fought back with a thread.

Since joining United in January, the former Sporting midfielder has scored from the spot on 12 occasions, as well as missing one against Newcastle United.

It has led to claims that the 26-year-old, who has scored 21 goals in all competitions, is reliant on penalties to make an impact.

However one fan has taken to Twitter to dispel that myth, showing some of the Portugal midfielder's best long range goals and passing.

On Tuesday Bruno scored twice as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side beat Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League, with the first being a real stunner.

He might have had a hat-trick, as United were once again awarded a penalty, but he decided to let Marcus Rashford take it, much to the besument of Paul Scholes.

Last weekend he'd been at the centre of controversy as it looked like he'd given away a penalty against West Brom in the first minute of the second half, with the game at 0-0.

It looked for all the world a penalty but the referee overturned the decision thanks to VAR when he went over to the screen.

Less than 10 minutes later United were awarded a penalty thanks to a controversial handball. Fernandes had his attempt saved by Sam Johnstone but the former United keeper was off his line and it had to be retaken. Of course the midfielder scored the second attempt.

Is Fernandes simply a penalty merchant? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
