Liverpool fans aren't impressed with Pep Guardiola's idea that Manchester City fans aren't interested in the Champions League because they're used to watching Liverpool and Manchester United play in the competition.

The Premier League champions have yet to have the impact they should have had on the Champions League, only once reaching the semi final, and Guardiola claimed it was because fans cared more about the league.

Liverpool fans weren't too impressed with Pep's claim though, taking to Twitter to pour cold water on his comments and to point out that he's often talking about the Reds.

Addressing the fact that City often fail to sell out their games in Europe the manager claimed it was because fans needed to be 'seduced' to the games because they were used to staying at home, watching their rivals in the competition, despite being in their ninth consecutive year in the tournament, "We have to seduce them so they realise how it's important. I think it's because in the past they were not there at our club [watching City in the competition]," Guardiola said.

"We were at home in the bars, drinking beer watching Liverpool and United. That's the culture of the club. We are making steps. I wouldn't want to arrive once in the final, then disappear for five years. I've a feeling we are closer but this competition is a high level. Anything can happen. All I can do is say to our fans: 'Come to join us and support us. These guys deserve it."

Can City finally win the Champions League this year?
