"In a display of incredible generosity, the board have decided to award you a sum in the region of £500 million to spend on players and a new stadium."

It's the message every seasoned Football Manager player wants to read on a cold Monday morning.

You smash the spacebar button faster than you've ever hit it before, exit the inbox and head to your scouting network.

"I can finally improve my depleted squad with a few Colombian wonderkids and a striker with 18 composure" I hear you say. "Next stop, Champions League football..."

But wait. Today is April the 1st. Sports Interactive wouldn't do such a thing, right?

In a cruel April Fools Day prank, Football Manager decided to continue their annual trend and fool players into thinking they've just won the virtual lottery. Always make sure you read the fine print.

"Sadly this proved to be an April Fool's wind-up from Sports Interactive." they continued.

Some unfortunate FM players took to social media after they were pranked.

it was never going to happen at Stockport though, was it lads?

Someone who may have come across the message on Football Manager this morning is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian revealed he played the popular game years ago, and it helped him develop as a manager:

"When I played for Manchester United, I relaxed by playing Football Manager. It's a fantastic game, I have learned a lot about football. I have learned a lot about players, especially young talent." he told Dagbladet.

"It resembles real life, when it comes to who will be good players. They have done incredible research. I remember thinking the same then, that I do as a manager, you want to give young guns the chance, see them develop.

"You could push a few buttons and get extra millions to buy a player. I never enjoyed that. I would rather win in spite of, than because of.

"Many of my players play FIFA and Football Manager. I think it helps them to understand football better."
