Lionel Messi has shown why he'll go down as one of the greatest of all time with a sublime performance in his 700th Barcelona game.

The Barca captain played a part in all three goals in their 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund this evening, scoring one and assisting two.

He's also made history by scoring against his 34th different Champions League team, the most by any player.

It's safe to say the 32-year-old ran the show at Signal Iduna Park this evening.

Luis Suarez opened the scoring for Ernesto Valverde's side but it was the Argentine who took all the plaudits.

Messi flicked the ball between four Dortmund players for Suarez to fire home.

Messi then doubled Barca's lead four minutes later when Suarez turned provider and the diminutive Argentine fired past Roman Burki.

Antoine Griezmann scored the La Liga outfit's third of the game and it was again Messi who turned provider.

Twitter reacted to a sublime performance on a milestone appearance.

Jadon Sancho scored a lovely consolation for Dortmund less than 15 minutes from time.

Victory for the Catalan giants sees them qualify for the next round of the Champions League as Group F winners.

With Lionel Messi spearheading the attack, winning any trophy is possible.
