Paul Merson Leaves Out One Obvious Star From His Team Of The Season

Paul Merson Leaves Out One Obvious Star From His Team Of The Season

The Sky pundit has almost become a parody of himself at this point but people still can't believe it.

There's an often talked about idea that someone who played football at the highest level knows more than those of us just watching. Paul Merson tries time and again to prove this theory to be utter bollocks, and he's once again been successful.

Merson was an extremely classy player on the ball and did his best work for Arsenal from the mid 80s to the late 90s, also having a pretty successful international career with England.

He also had a very short and very unsuccessful managerial career. But not content with proving that players don't always make the best managers he also continues to prove they don't always make the best pundits either.

On Sky he might be fun to laugh at but he constantly fails to get players names right or even know what's going on.

His insight into Marco Silva getting the Hull job last season just proved how ridiculous a man he is, totally underplaying the Portuguese managers achievements before taking the job.

And Merson has once again attracted the ire of fans by picking his team of the season so far and somehow managing to miss out the Premier League's top goalscorer, Liverpool's Mo Salah.

"Paul Merson's XI: De Gea; Walker, Tarkowski, Mee, Alonso; De Bruyne, Fernandinho; Sane, Silva, Sterling; Kane"

Merson claims his picks of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane out wide are 'obvious' but the other three pundits, Phil Thompson, Charlie Nicholas and Matt Le Tissier all manage to choose the man with 14 Premier League goals and three assists.

Fans were quick to take to Twitter to show their disapproval at Merson:

This man makes his living off giving his 'expert' insight into football and giving tips on Sky Bet, you've seriously got to question yourself if you're placing money based on what he tells you.

Who would make your team of the season so far?
