Benjamin Mendy's Reaction To The Anfield Crowd Didn't Go Down Well

Benjamin Mendy's Reaction To The Anfield Crowd Didn't Go Down Well

The Manchester City left back wasn't able to play in the Champions League quarter final as he's still injured.

It's no secret that Benjamin Mendy has quickly become a favourite amongst fans in the Premier League and ours here at SB HQ but last night the Manchester City full back had a rare miss when talking about Liverpool's atmosphere.

There had been lots of talk about the atmosphere at Anfield in the build up to Liverpool's quarter final with Manchester City and whether or not the Premier League leaders would be able to handle it.

Check out our list of Gary Lineker's funniest tweets:

Even before the game the atmosphere got the better of City when Liverpool fans actually caused damage to the city bus, although nowhere near as much damage as the Reds attack caused to Pep Guardiola's defence.

Jurgen Klopp's side ran rampant on City in the first half and Aymeric Laporte deployed at left-back to deal with one of the world's most in form players in the shape of Mo Salah and failed to do so.

The man who should have been there is Benjamin Mendy who suffered a season ending injury very early in the season and has spent his season just being the best football tweeter.

Last night though he failed when after the match he talked about Liverpool's atmosphere being good but not as good as Marseille's:

And fans felt the tweet was badly timed at best:

Whether or not the atmosphere at Marseille is better or not it certainly wasn't the time to point it out considering City had just got their arses handed to them for the first time this season, there'd been losses before but nothing like this.

Mendy will be hoping that his side can turn it around at the Etihad next week. The Citizens did record a 5-0 win over the Reds earlier this season so anything is possible.

Can City fans create an atmosphere to help their side overturn the 3-0 deficit?
