New Manchester United Manager Ralf Rangnick's Previous Comments On Luke Shaw Are Brutal, He Could Be In Trouble

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw might have to prove himself to new interim boss Ralf Rangnick going off his previous comments.

Reports emerged on Thursday stating the 63-year-old had agreed a six-month deal to take over at Old Trafford until the end of the season following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

There was a five-man shortlist drawn up by United and they ultimately opted for Rangnick, who is head of sports and development at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Rangnick is known as "the Godfather of German coaching" due to the way his gegenpressing style influenced the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann.

And there's already concern for Shaw because Rangnick has already gone on record to say he doesn't rate the England left-back.

"I also think they could do with a left-back, I know they have Luke Shaw but I'm not so sure if he's still on the same kind of level you need to be for a club like Manchester United," Rangnick said in an interview in September 2020.

Rangnick has also been quoted as saying star man Cristiano Ronaldo is "too old and too expensive" in the past when in charge of RB Leipzig.

He has also managed the likes of Stuttgart, Hannover, Schalke and Hoffenheim and served as director of football at Red Bull Salzburg and Leipzig.

Should Lokomotiv give their blessing, Rangnick will be United manager until May and will also serve as a consultant for two years after that period.

He was initially reluctant to take the position but decided to accept when talks progressed. A work permit still needs to be granted, however, and so Michael Carrick will take charge of his second game against Chelsea at the weekend.
