Manchester City Star Told To 'Step Up' Under Pep Guardiola Or 'Leave The Club' After PSG Defeat

Manchester City Star Told To 'Step Up' Under Pep Guardiola Or 'Leave The Club' After PSG Defeat

Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish were deployed either side of Raheem Sterling in Man City’s 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Raheem Sterling has been warned that he must step up his performances under Pep Guardiola or make the decision to leave Manchester City.

That is according to Simon Jordan, who has raised concerns over Sterling after the £100m arrival of Jack Grealish in the summer.

Sterling, who was signed from Liverpool in 2015, has become an instrumental part of City’s squad and thrived under Guardiola’s tutelage.

The 26-year-old City winger has made over 300 appearances for the club and lifted three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and four Carabao Cups.

Sterling was in scintillating form for England at Euro 2020 in the summer en route to the Three Lions’ defeat to Italy in the final at Wembley.

The England international has only scored once and registered one assist in nine appearances for City this season.

However, Sterling now faces competition out on the City right wing from Grealish, who arrived in a British transfer record deal from Aston Villa.

The former Liverpool star was deployed in a No 9 role against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, with Grealish and Riyad Mahrez deployed either side on the wings.

Jordan has now insisted that Sterling must make “one of two decisions” if Grealish continues to play in his “preferred position.”

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “If he’s now in a side where the conventional wisdom is suggesting that his preferred position is now going to be occupied by Jack Grealish, he has one of two decisions to make.

“Step up and start to do what is required of you in a position that Pep puts you in, or leave the club.

“Unless there’s going to be a departure from what seems to be the indication that Jack Grealish is going to play in that position, what is Raheem Sterling going to do?”

Sterling was taken off in the second half against PSG on Tuesday and replaced by Gabriel Jesus, who is Guardiola’s main striker for their current season.

The defending Premier League champions failed in their bid to land wantaway Tottenham striker Harry Kane in the summer window.

Goals from Idrissa Gueye and Lionel Messi sealed a 2-0 win for PSG over City at the Parc des Princes.

City will resume their Premier League title defence on Sunday with their trip to Anfield for a showdown with Liverpool.
