It's just a couple of months ago that Everton offered £15 million for him.

The Premier League is a cruel world. Just a couple of months after Watford wouldn't let Marco Silva leave for Everton the club have sacked him after a run of bad results have left them vulnerable to a relegation fight.

It seems crazy that just a few months ago Watford were the surprise package in the Premier League at the beginning of the season and Marco Silva was waving his magic wand once again.

Having nearly kept Hull up last season and playing with attacking football the Portuguese manager was expected to be the next big thing and plenty of clubs had an interest in him with Watford getting him having sacked Walter Mazzarri.

Such was the start of their season that Everton were interested in him after letting Ronald Koeman go at the beginning of the season but the Hornets rejected a £15 million offer to keep their man.

However since then their form has dropped off significantly and having won only one of their last five games they sit only five points about the relegation zone. Fearing he couldn't arrest the slump the club have decided to sack him.

In a statement on the club website they blamed Everton's approach for his losing of focus, saying:

"This has been a difficult decision and one not taken lightly. The Club is convinced the appointment of Silva was the right one and had it not been for the unwarranted approach by a Premier League rival for his services we would have continued to prosper under his leadership.

"The catalyst for this decision is that unwarranted approach, something which the Board believes has seen a significant deterioration in both focus and results to the point where the long-term future of Watford FC has been jeopardised.

"For the security and success of the football club, the Board believes it has to make a change."

The final straw for Watford was the 2-0 loss to Leicester on Saturday and they'll now be looking for a replacement to keep them outside the relegation zone for the rest of the season.

What's next for Silva?
