Manchester United fans are very happy with the club's new signing after his six goals but chant is creating negative headlines.

Romelu Lukaku's start to life at Old Trafford should have caused absolutely no controversy with the Belgian bagging himself six goals in the opening six Premier League games. Instead much of the narrative around him is now about a chant, that his agent has had his say on.

Unsurprisingly Manchester United fans were very happy when the club splashed the cash to sign Romelu Lukaku in the summer, especially when they nipped in ahead of Chelsea to sign the Belgian from Everton.

After bagging 51 goals in the previous two seasons for the Toffees it was no surprise Jose Mourinho wanted to be reunited with the former Chelsea striker. And things have started well for Lukaku, bagging eight in eight in all competitions.

That has delighted fans further and to show their appreciation they came up with a chant. However the terraces new favourite tune has been criticised by many, including 'Kick Racism Out of Football', for its racist reference to Lukaku's manhood.

Fans have been asked by the club, anti-racism organisations and the player to stop singing the song but some defied those pleas at the weekend and now the player's agent, Mino Raiola has had his say, telling the Times:

"He would like this song to stop. They are talking more about the song than about his football. That's his and my quote."

Despite previously having been warned not to sing the song some United fans couldn't help themselves, especially when Lukaku scored the only goal of the game against Southampton, and also sang 'we're Manchester United. We sing what we want.'

On Saturday evening the club issued a statement saying, "Manchester United has a zero tolerance stance on offensive chanting and behaviour. The club and player have been clear in asking for an end to the chant. The club has worked with relevant bodies and supporters groups in trying to eradicate any offensive behaviour and will take further action against individuals if this continues.

"The club is in discussion with the police and has asked for CCTV footage from Southampton and will try to identify those who disrespected the player's wishes not to sing the song."

With the wish of the player being repeated we hope that United fans will stop.
