La Liga is doing an Eddie Murphy and coming to America and now we know that it'll be Girona who give up one of their home games in order to face Barcelona in Miami.
Last month La Liga decided to make the crazy decision to start playing games in America. They made a deal with a company to take actual league matches from Spain to America, and Canada, for the next 15 years.
Unsurprisingly it's not exactly an idea that's been met with universal approval. Even the players aren't happy with the idea, especially as they seemingly weren't consulted about the idea before the deal was signed.
The idea doesn't seem to give a care to the fans who have to travel thousands of miles to what really should be a home game for them, as well as the away fans of course.

However that fear has been somewhat allayed, at least for the first game, along with the announcement of who the first match will be between.
Today Spanish newspaper SPORT report that Girona vs Barcelona will be the first La Liga match played on north American soil with the match due to take place at the Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, on January 27th.
To help fans 1,500 flights will be available for Girona season ticket holders, although they will have to provide a €500 deposit, which will be returned after the trip.

A potential overnight stay in Florida could also be made available with a €600 deposit needed.
Fans who don't fancy the trip to Miami, or can't make it, will also be refunded with 5,000 free tickets available for the away game at the Camp Nou later this month and a 20% return on their season ticket price.
If a fan doesn't want to take up the offer for Miami or the Camp Nou then they'll be able to get 40% of their season ticket price back.

It's very good to see that the club do care enough to help their fans but there's still no doubt they'll be getting a lot of money in return for taking the game to America.
