In a parallel universe somewhere Luke Shaw has just had an excellent World Cup as England's left back. In fact perhaps in that world England are still in it. But in this one the Manchester United is looking lean as hell and almost unrecognisable.
Luke Shaw is the puzzle that can't be solved it often feels like. No doubt a talent but his broken leg, lack of form, fitness and confidence have led his development to screech to a halt.
Everytime under Jose Mourinho he has taken a step forward there's ultimately been three steps backwards and last season he had to play second fiddle to Ashley Young, often finding himself even out of the matchday squad.

That led to most people assuming that he'd be out of Old Trafford this summer, sold off to rediscover his form and reignite his career.
But just as you think he's done for he's been pictured looking as fit as any footballer has and as long with his trim body people are confused that his whole face seems to have changed, including gleaming gnashers:
Time will tell if this new look Shaw can actually live up to how good his talent suggested he could be when he was just a youngster at Southampton, that we've only seen glimpses of in his time at United.
