Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Berrates Jesse Lingard Before Subbing Him Off

The Manchester United manager warned the midfielder that if he gave the ball away one more time then he'd be taken off.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was seen shouting at Jesse Lingard during the Carabao Cup semi final against Manchester City, before the midfielder got subbed off.

Lingard's form for United in the past two years has been questioned a lot and he only broke a year long domestic goal drought against Tranmere Rovers on Sunday in the FA Cup.

On Wednesday he started against City in the second leg of the semi final against City but despite winning the free-kick that led to United's opener the 27-year-old was poor and at one point Solskjaer was seen screaming at him about giving the ball away, before subbing him off minutes later:

Lingard had just given the ball away in City's half, trying to find teammate Fred, and City had used the moment to break up the pitch.

Raheem Sterling broke into the United box and looked to be one-on-one with David de Gea but the Spaniard closed his space so the forward tried to get round him.

By the time he did there were defenders on the line and he blasted it over the bar, leading to Solskjaer's tirade. Just minutes later Lingard was replaced by Andreas Pereira.

United trailed 3-1 from the first leg and looked like they would need a similar miracle to the one they produced against PSG in the Champions League last year in order to make the final.

Pep Guardiola's side started the better and put the visitors under a lot of pressure, with De Gea having to twice save excellent chances for the Premier League champions.

The visitors grew into the game however and Nemanja Matic gave them the lead in the 35th minute, a lead they wouldn't give up.

City twice had the ball in the back of the net, once through Sterling and once through Sergio Aguero, but both goals were correctly ruled out for offside.

Matic picked up a red card for two yellow cards late on but City couldn't trouble the score sheet and United failed to have any clear cut chances late on to send Guardiola's team through to yet another domestic final.
