Recent Manchester United captain's have tended to last around three years with the last man to do the job for less time being Eric Cantona however Michael Carrick may be a one season wonder like the King. The midfielder has named who he thinks will be his heir.

The list of Manchester United club captain's in the Premier League is a pretty decent list of Old Trafford legends. Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce shared the responsibility first before Bruce got the job on his own he was followed by Cantona, Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Nemanja Vidic and Wayne Rooney.

Wazza left a few weeks ago after more than a decade at the club and Jose Mourinho wasted little time in replacing the club's record ever goalscorer when he made Michael Carrick the new captain.

The 35 year-old only has a one year deal at Old Trafford and there's no guarantee he'll remain at the club after next season so the manager could be looking at his third captain in three years.

Speaking to the press yesterday Carrick named Paul Pogba as his heir apparent saying, "He's certainly got the presence, character and belief to pull it off.

"All the time I'm sure the manager is planning a long way behind me, for someone to take on that mantle, and he's probably in that bracket where you'd say - 'yeah, he can be a future captain.'"

The former Spurs midfielder also predicted that next season will be a big one for the Frenchman adding, "Obviously Paul is a confident lad, so over time he's going to be a great player for this club and have a big season this season.

"He's had a year to adjust, I know he was here as a kid, but a lot has gone on since then and he's played a lot of different football since then...I think we've seen the improvement and we'll see it again next season."

United fans will be expecting a lot from Pogba next season, clearly their captain reckons he'll deliver.
