Jose Mourinho Gives Injury Update On Left Back Luke Shaw

Former Southampton defender Shaw hasn't had the best of luck since moving to Manchester United. Will things get better?

It's not all that long ago that Luke Shaw's departure from Old Trafford this summer felt almost inevitable. So far this summer he's stuck around and now his manager has given a major update.

When he was a Southampton player Luke Shaw was a very promising youngster and Manchester United and Chelsea, then managed by Jose Mourinho, battled over him. Once you join one of those clubs you've instantly got to stop being promising and start delivering.

Shaw's first season at Old Trafford was hit and miss and a run of small injuries meant he never got going. The second season started well enough for the left-back but a broken leg early in the season ended his chances to shine.

Last season he returned to the squad with Jose Mourinho now in charge and injuries, form and the manager questioning his commitment to the cause made many second guess that he wouldn't be at Old Trafford come the start of the season.

The 22 year-old is still there and with United reportedly not pursuing Danny Rose he looks likely to stay around. Having finished last season on crutches as a fan at the Europa League final the Englishman is yet to make an appearance but the manager has now given an update telling MUTV:

"Everybody is fine. The next week, on Monday, in the Under-23s game, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are playing their first minutes of competition this season.

"It is like a pre-season match for them. But it is good news because, when they can play with the Under-23s, it is because the last week they trained with us all week so they are both coming [back]."

The Red Devils have been linked with moves for a left-back with only Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian to chose from in the position at the moment but both Shaw and Young are able to play there too.

The former Saints player's last game was against Swansea City back in April and whilst he won't be fit to play their first team on Saturday he will feature against the same team's reserves at the beginning of next week.

Finally some good news for Shaw.
