Marouane Fellaini Is Officially The Best Striker In Belgium's World Cup Squad

The Manchester United player is much derided but he is officially the best finisher for his national team, surprisingly enough.

Belgium may be some peoples' tip to go far in the World Cup but what they wouldn't be expecting is that if they're to get far then they'll need their main man upfront, Marouane Fellaini.

The Red Devils were dark horses in Brazil four years ago and reached the quarter finals, two years later at the Euros they were one of the fancied sides but a quarter final loss to Wales was seen as a disappointment.

Now managed by Roberto Martinez the talent on the pitch suggests that they should be aiming for a semi-final place and could challenge to be winners of the World Cup.

They kicked their campaign off in the most comprehensive style of any of the favourites as they put aside Panama in a 3-0 win, with Argentina, Germany, Spain and Brazil all slipping up in their opening games.

Romelu Lukaku scored twice in Belgium's win and Dries Mertens was also on the scoresheet with a rather sexy looking volley.

However neither man is actually the squad's best striker, and it's not Eden Hazard either, in fact it's officially Marouane Fellaini:

Fellaini didn't even get on in the match against Panama with Mousa Dembele, Thorgan Hazard and Nacer Chadli all prefered by Martinez as the men to come off the bench.

Of course as Belgium had control of the game and had scored three goals it would have been a waste of his clear talents to bring him on for a cameo and clearly the former Everton manager is saving him for a big game like England.

Fellaini scored just five goals for Manchester United last season with four coming in the Premier League and one coming in the Champions League.

The 30 year old is normally someone who gets a lot of mocking but maybe he'll be Belgium's not so secret, very blunt and direct weapon...or not.
