Danny Drinkwater 'Beaten Up' By 'Thugs' Outside Of Manchester Club

The Burnley loanee was reportedly attacked by six 'thugs' after enjoying a night out in Manchester after the club's loss to Liverpool.

Danny Drinkwater was attacked by six thugs outside of a nightclub last Saturday night who shouted 'break his legs' as the incident took place.

On loan Burnley player Drinkwater was out in Manchester at the Chinawhite nightclub on Deansgate and was thrown out of the club by security before the incident took place, according to the Sun.

A source told the newspaper, "It was incredibly nasty with blood everywhere," and the report says that the thugs jumped on top of the Chelsea owned midfielder's ankle whilst chanting 'break his legs.'

The 29-year-old was out not long after being an unused substitute in Burnley's 3-0 loss to Liverpool as he failed to make his first league appearance for the Clarets after joining in August.

According to the report Drinkwater was asked to 'calm down' by security and continual hit on another football player's girlfriend, before eventually being asked to leave by security.

The source said, "At one point he was curled up in a ball on the ground, as they repeatedly jumped up and down on his ankle and shouting, 'Break his legs'."

"They knew he was a Premier League star and it was his livelihood. There was blood everywhere, and it was all incredibly nasty."

The midfielder, who won the Premier League with Leicester City three years ago, hasn't played a Premier League game for 18 months after being told my Maurizio Sarri he wasn't part of the Italian's plans at Chelsea last season.

He moved on loan to Burnley during the transfer window but had been yet to make a league debut, only playing in the Carabao Cup loss to Sunderland, and it was confirmed last week he'd be out injured for up to six weeks.

It now seems that he has suffered torn ankle ligaments during the attack, that also left him with 'a black eye, severely swollen forehead, bruised shoulders and arms, and cut cheek.'

Police were not called to the incident and the former Manchester United academy player didn't report it to them afterwards.

Drinkwater is an England international but made all three of his appearances for the Three Lions in 2016 and failed to make the final squad for the Euros that summer.
