Chelsea legend John Terry spoke glowingly of Andreas Christensen back in 2014 and the quotes are doing the rounds again after the Dane's excellent performance against Manchester United last weekend.

The versatile defender signed for Chelsea from Brondby's youth academy but had to wait patiently to break into the side, managing three appearances under Jose Mourinho in the 2014/15 double-winning campaign.

But a productive two-year loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany, where he made a total of 82 appearances, saw him brought him back into the first-team fold by Antonio Conte.

Christensen started home games against both Manchester clubs, notably stifling Romelu Lukaku in Sunday's 1-0 win. Three years back, former skipper Terry backed him to replace him at Stamford Bridge.

"Believe me, I am sure that he will be a top footballer and one of the future men for Chelsea." Terry said to TV2 Sporten, as quoted by Sky Sports.

"I talk to him daily, train with him and try to give him as much advice as I can.

"I have always told him that he should chase me and knock me off the team. He should be hungry to take my place in the team.

"For me, Andreas is a brilliant footballer and he will certainly get his chance at Chelsea."

Christensen got his start against United, his 15th appearance of the season, at the expense of out-of-favour David Luiz.

And ironically a post from the Brazilian, also in 2014, has resurfaced following recent events.

He posted a picture of himself with Christensen and tipped him for big things at Chelsea. Though to be fair, the former PSG and Benfica man probably didn't expect the 21-year old to be displacing him in the Chelsea side.

After a reported row between Conte and Luiz, Christensen, who the Chelsea boss says is "in really good form", would appear to be ahead of the former PSG man in the pecking order at Chelsea at present.
