Eight years ago to this day, Mesut Ozil well and truly made his mark in German football with a match-winning performance for Werder Bremen against Hoffenheim.

The game was a 5-4 thriller played at Weserstadion, Ozil scored the opener in the 8th minute before Demba Ba, who would later turn out for West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea, netted the equaliser for Hoffenheim.

Bremen then replied immediately, goals from former Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro, Diego and Aaron Hunt giving the hosts an emphatic lead. But Hoffenheim hit back with an incredible comeback that saw them level matters with just under 20 minutes of time left.

That's when Ozil, a 19-year old signed from Schalke, made a name for himself - rifling home in the 81st minute to seal the win for his side.

It's fair to say Ozil, now 27, has provided even more magic during those eight years with a number of match-winning displays for Real Madrid, Arsenal and Germany.
